Setting a formal table involves arranging the tableware and glassware in a specific manner to suit a formal dining setting. Here's a guide for a formal table setting with wine,

Tablecloth and Placement:
Lay a clean and pressed tablecloth over the table.
Place individual placements or chargers at each setting.

Dinner Plate (Main Course):
Set the main dinner plate at the centre of each placement.

Salad Plate (Optional):
If serving a salad, place a smaller plate for the salad on top of the dinner plate.

Forks:
Arrange the forks on the left side of the plate.
The larger fork (for the main course) goes on the far left, followed by a smaller fork for salads or appetisers.

Knife:
Place the knife to the right of the plate.
The blade should face the plate.

Spoons:
Set the soup spoon to the right of the knife.
Place a dessert spoon or dessert fork horizontally above the dinner plate.

Glassware:
Arrange the wine glass(es) to the right, above the knife.
If serving multiple types of wine, set the larger glass for red wine closer to the guest and the smaller glass for white wine.

Napkin:
Fold the napkin neatly and place it on the centre or to the left of the forks.

Bread and Butter Plate:
Place a bread and butter plate above the forks, to the left.

Water Glass:
Set the water glass to the left, above the forks.

Coffee Cup and Saucer (Optional):
If serving coffee, place the cup and saucer to the right of the knife.

Name Card (Optional):
Place a name card or menu card on top of the napkin or above the main course plate.

Remember, formal table settings can vary based on cultural or regional practices, so adjust accordingly to suit your specific requirements.
